TikTok to Pay $400 Million to Settle U.S. Children's Privacy Case
TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, have agreed to pay $400 million to settle a U.S. government lawsuit accusing the platform of violating children's online privacy laws. The Justice Department alleged that TikTok collected personal information from children under 13 without required parental consent and failed to delete some accounts when requested. The settlement includes an immediate $300 million payment and a further $100 million payment tied to the dismissal of an earlier Musical.ly consent decree.
