In August 2025, global air travel saw record demand, with certain international routes emerging as the busiest in terms of passenger traffic. This ranking of the top 10 busiest international airline routes highlights the most traveled corridors connecting major cities worldwide, reflecting both business and leisure travel trends. The list provides insight into shifting passenger flows, key hubs driving connectivity, and the busiest air links shaping global aviation during the peak travel season of 2025.
The air corridor linking Hong Kong with Taipei claimed the top spot as the busiest international route worldwide in August 2025.
For travelers crisscrossing the globe, whether on business trips or holidays, some airspaces see far more traffic than others. Data from travel intelligence firm OAG shows that Asia Pacific continues to dominate the skies, with its routes leading the global rankings once again this year.
Heading the chart is the Hong Kong (HKG) to Taipei (TPE) service, which maintained its lead with 581,751 available seats in both directions. This figure mirrors last year’s capacity, reinforcing the route’s consistent popularity.
The Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Singapore Changi (SIN) connection followed closely with 462,125 seats, though this reflected a modest three percent drop compared with August 2024. Just behind was Cairo (CAI) to Jeddah (JED), offering 461,210 seats and showcasing the robust passenger flow between Africa and the Middle East.
A standout performer this year is the Osaka Kansai (KIX) to Shanghai Pudong (PVG) route, now holding the sixth global position. It recorded an impressive 57 percent year-on-year growth, adding more than 140,000 extra seats compared to last year. The Jakarta (CGK) to Singapore Changi (SIN) route also expanded capacity by 12 percent, securing seventh place.
Not every route followed the same trend. The Seoul Incheon (ICN) to Tokyo Narita (NRT) link, which ranked fourth overall, saw the steepest capacity cut among the top contenders, dropping by eight percent from the previous year.
The analysis underscores Asia Pacific’s dominance, with seven of the world’s ten busiest routes situated in this region. Major hubs such as Seoul Incheon, Hong Kong, Singapore Changi, and Osaka Kansai featured multiple times, reflecting their pivotal roles in regional and global air travel.
Outside Asia, only three connections managed to enter the global top tier: Dubai (DXB) to Riyadh (RUH) in the Middle East, New York (JFK) to London Heathrow (LHR) linking North America with Europe, and Cairo (CAI) to Jeddah (JED) bridging Africa and the Middle East.
As global passenger volumes continue to rise, these results reveal shifting travel patterns and highlight which air routes were the most heavily traveled in August 2025.
