A Sikh woman in the UK was raped by two men who allegedly hurled racist abuse at her, telling her to “go back to your country.” The assault is being investigated as both a sexual and hate crime, highlighting growing concerns over racial and religiously motivated violence in the region. Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the attackers, while community leaders have condemned the incident, calling for stronger protections and justice for minority women.
Police in the United Kingdom are investigating the rape of a Sikh woman in her twenties as a racially aggravated hate crime after she was attacked by two men in Oldbury last Tuesday.
The assault happened near Tame Road around 8:30 a.m. The woman reported that her attackers not only raped her but also subjected her to racist slurs, including telling her to “go back to your own country.” Authorities confirmed that CCTV footage and forensic evidence are being reviewed, and they urged the public to help identify the suspects.
According to BirminghamLive, police are searching for two white men. One was described as having a shaved head and wearing a dark sweatshirt, while the other wore a grey top.
The incident has sparked outrage within the local Sikh community, which views the attack as a deliberate targeting of minorities. A senior police officer acknowledged the anger as “fully understandable” and promised increased patrols in the area.
British lawmakers also condemned the crime. Preet Kaur Gill, MP for Birmingham Edgbaston, said the rise of “overt racism” is alarming. “This was an act of extreme violence but is also being treated as racially aggravated, with the perpetrators reportedly telling her that she ‘does not belong here.’ She does belong here. Racism and misogyny have no place in Oldbury, or anywhere in Britain,” Gill said.
Jas Athwal, MP for Ilford South, called it a “vile, racist, misogynist attack” and urged authorities to treat it with the utmost seriousness. “Let’s be clear, this attack is a result of rising racial tensions in our country, and now, a young woman has been left traumatised for life,” he said.
The attack follows another troubling incident less than a month ago, when two elderly Sikh men were assaulted by three teenagers outside a Wolverhampton railway station. Video showed the men being repeatedly kicked, with their turbans knocked off during the beating.
Police say they are pursuing every lead in the Oldbury case to bring the perpetrators to justice.
