China has released footage of its next-generation CR450 bullet train reaching a record speed of 453 km/h (281 mph) during a test run. The breakthrough marks a major milestone in China’s high-speed rail development, surpassing the performance of its current CR400 model. The CR450 aims to enhance efficiency, safety, and comfort, solidifying China’s position as a global leader in high-speed rail technology.

China has once again drawn global attention with a major leap in high-speed rail technology. Its newly developed CR450 bullet train has set a world record during pre-service testing, reaching an astonishing top speed of 453 km/h (281 mph) on the high-speed rail line between Shanghai and Chengdu, according to CGTN.
The CR450 accelerated to 350 km/h in just 4 minutes and 40 seconds about 100 seconds faster than the country’s current CR400 Fuxing model. Engineers attribute the improved performance to significant aerodynamic and structural upgrades, including an extended 15-meter nose cone designed to reduce air resistance compared with the 12.5-meter design on existing trains.
A video of the record-breaking trial run was shared by the Chinese Embassy in the United States, which described the CR450 as “the world’s fastest train.” The post emphasized the train’s top test speed of 450 km/h and its planned commercial operating speed of 400 km/h when it enters service in 2026.
The CR450’s design not only pushes speed limits but also aims to improve energy efficiency, reliability, and passenger comfort underscoring China’s growing dominance in the global high-speed rail industry.
