Anthropic has expanded its free plan by introducing several premium Claude features at no cost. The update allows more users to access advanced AI capabilities that were previously limited to paid subscribers. By broadening access to enhanced tools and improved performance, the company aims to strengthen its competitive position in the AI market while making powerful, next-generation AI assistance more widely available.

Anthropic has revealed that some of Claude’s most sought-after tools are no longer reserved for paying subscribers. File Creation, Connectors, Skills, and Compaction are now available on the free plan, opening the door to features that were previously locked behind Pro and Max tiers.
The AI startup confirmed the update midweek, noting that anyone logged into Claude can start using these additions right away. While the tools are accessible to free users, they will run on the models allocated to the free tier. The move arrives at a notable moment, as OpenAI is reportedly experimenting with ads inside ChatGPT.
File Creation transforms how users generate content inside the chat. Instead of copying plain text, users can now produce fully structured files such as spreadsheets, PDFs, or Python scripts. Claude formats everything neatly into downloadable files like .csv, .pdf, or .py, making it easier to create ready-to-use documents in seconds.
Connectors takes things a step further by linking Claude to external platforms. Powered by Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), this feature enables integration with tools such as Google Drive, Notion, and Slack. Once connected, Claude can pull in relevant information and even perform certain actions within those apps, giving free users a glimpse of its more agent-like capabilities.
Skills adds a layer of customization to conversations. Think of it as combining detailed instructions with a built-in knowledge base. Users can create or apply pre-built Skills to guide Claude’s tone, role, and expertise, without having to repeat directions across chats and projects.
Compaction rounds out the update by helping users pick up exactly where they left off. If a conversation has gone cold, this feature delivers a concise summary of previous exchanges, restoring context instantly and allowing work to continue without confusion.
Together, these upgrades significantly expand what free users can accomplish, making Claude more powerful and practical without requiring a paid subscription.
