A remarkable 2-year-old boy from the UK has made history by becoming the youngest ever member of a prestigious high-IQ society. Demonstrating exceptional intelligence far beyond his years, he met the stringent criteria to join this exclusive group known for recognizing the most intellectually gifted individuals worldwide. This milestone highlights not only his extraordinary cognitive abilities but also brings attention to the potential of early childhood intellect and the ways such societies identify and celebrate genius at any age.
Mensa is a selective organization reserved for people with exceptionally high IQ scores. Eligibility requires an IQ of at least 132, placing candidates in the top two percent, as reported by The NY Post. The youngest individual ever to join Mensa is just over two years old. This highly gifted boy from the UK began speaking at seven months old.
Joseph Harris-Birtill, born on November 23, 2021, officially became a Mensa member at two years and 182 days, making him the youngest male to join the society. His parents, Rose and David Harris-Birtill, who are very proud, hope Joseph will appreciate this achievement as he grows older.
Rose described Joseph as an exceptional child who rolled over by five weeks, spoke his first word at seven months, and started reading aloud by eighteen months. By two and a half years old, Joseph could read aloud for ten minutes, count forward and backward to 100, and count to ten in five different languages, his parents shared.
Though his exact IQ score remains private, Guinness World Records and his parents confirmed Joseph surpassed the previous youngest female member, Isla McNabb, who joined at two years and 195 days in 2023. Recognizing their son’s extraordinary talents early on, his parents reached out to Mensa for support beyond typical childhood development opportunities.
Mensa has played a vital role in Joseph’s life, offering him both intellectual challenges and social connections with other gifted children. To qualify for Mensa, individuals must demonstrate exceptional cognitive abilities across various areas, including language skills, logic, and problem-solving.
Recently, Joseph has taken an interest in the periodic table, piano playing, the Greek alphabet, and Morse code. He also shows a talent for languages, math, cooking, and flying paper airplanes, according to The New York Post.
Joseph’s Mensa membership not only makes his family proud but also gives him a community that appreciates and nurtures his intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm.
