WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that could allow iOS users to add a profile cover photo, bringing more personalization to user profiles. Similar to other social platforms, the update would let iPhone users showcase a larger visual alongside their display picture. The feature is expected to roll out gradually after testing, enhancing profile aesthetics and user expression without affecting chats, privacy controls, or core messaging functionality for iOS users worldwide in future updates.

WhatsApp appears to be preparing a fresh update aimed at enhancing profile personalization for iOS users. Reports suggest the platform is experimenting with a new profile cover photo option designed specifically for iPhone users. This feature was previously spotted in beta testing for Android, indicating a wider rollout plan. Once introduced, users may be able to add a cover image to their profiles, much like the profile layouts seen on platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Notably, this visual feature is already available on WhatsApp Business accounts.
According to insights shared by feature tracker WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is actively developing a profile cover photo option for personal accounts. The feature was discovered in the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 26.1.10.71, currently accessible through Apple’s TestFlight program.
The update is also expected to introduce a dedicated space within the profile section to display the cover photo. Early layouts indicate that the banner-style image will appear above the profile picture, closely resembling the design approach used by major social networking platforms. Businesses on WhatsApp already use this feature to visually represent their brand, and a similar experience is now being extended to individual users.
Setting a cover photo is likely to be straightforward and familiar. Users may be able to tap the banner area to capture a new photo or select one from their gallery, with the flexibility to adjust or replace it whenever they choose. Once activated, the cover image is expected to be visible both on a user’s profile and when others view their contact details.
Alongside this upcoming feature, WhatsApp has recently rolled out several new tools to improve user interaction. These include member tags that add context to user names, text-based stickers created directly from typed words, and enhanced event reminders that allow custom alerts when events are shared in group chats.
