One Killed, At Least 10 Injured in Texas Shooting; Suspect Dead After Standoff

One person was killed and at least 10 others were injured in a shooting in Texas, according to local authorities. Emergency responders rushed the victims to nearby hospitals, while law enforcement launched an investigation into the incident. Officials are working to determine the motive and identify any suspects involved. The shooting has raised concerns among residents as authorities continue gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

MIDLAND, Texas — At least one person was killed and 10 others were injured in a shooting in Midland, Texas, on Friday, authorities said. The suspected gunman was later found dead following a standoff with law enforcement that lasted several hours.

Local officials said there were 11 victims in total, including the person who was killed. Midland Memorial Hospital confirmed it received nine victims, four of whom were undergoing surgery as of Friday afternoon. Another victim was transported to Odessa Medical Center Hospital.

Police responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 8 a.m. local time. Midland Mayor Lori Blong said officers quickly arrived at the scene and worked to contain the suspect, who remained in a standoff with authorities for approximately two hours.

According to officials, the incident began in one area of the city before moving near a veterinary hospital. Witnesses reported hearing dozens of gunshots during the ordeal.

SWAT teams and multiple law enforcement agencies were deployed to the scene. Authorities later announced that the active shooter situation had been resolved and confirmed that the suspect was deceased. Officials did not immediately release information about the suspect's identity or the circumstances surrounding the suspect's death.

Mayor Blong expressed sympathy for those affected by the tragedy.

"My heart breaks for the victims and their families," she said during a press conference. "We are praying for every person touched by today's events and for the law enforcement officers who risked their safety to protect our community."

Hospital officials said the victims not undergoing surgery were in stable condition. Authorities also reported that no law enforcement officers were injured during the response.

Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick offered condolences to the victims and praised first responders for their actions.

"Texans are heartbroken over the news of a shooting in Midland," Patrick said in a statement posted on social media. "Please join us in praying for the victims, their families, and the city of Midland. We also thank our brave first responders for their courage."

The shooting revived painful memories in Midland, a city of roughly 140,000 residents. In 2019, a gunman who had been fired from his job carried out a deadly shooting spree across Midland and neighboring Odessa, killing seven people and injuring more than two dozen others.

Authorities continue to investigate Friday's shooting and have not yet disclosed a possible motive.
