HICKMAN COUNTY, Tenn. A powerful explosion tore through a U.S. military explosives plant in Hickman County, Tennessee, on Friday, leaving multiple people dead and several others missing, according to local authorities.

Aerial footage broadcast by U.S. media showed smoldering debris and twisted metal across the Accurate Energetic Systems facility in the Bucksnort area, with charred vehicles scattered around the site. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising as emergency crews worked to contain fires and secure the area.

“We can confirm there has been an explosion at Accurate Energetic Systems in the Bucksnort area,” the Hickman County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Emergency services are currently on the scene working to address the situation.”

Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis described the incident as a “very devastating blast” that engulfed an entire building, confirming that several people were unaccounted for and that there were fatalities. “We do have some that are dead,” Davis said. “We’re trying to be mindful of families and the situation as we work through notifications.”

Authorities warned residents to stay away from the area due to the risk of additional explosions. The cause of the blast remains under investigation, and officials have not released the number of casualties or the extent of the damage.
