Apple is reportedly developing its next-generation AirPods lineup, including the new AirPods Pro and AirPods 5, featuring the advanced H3 chip. The upgrade is expected to enhance sound quality, connectivity, and performance, building on the success of previous models. These new AirPods aim to deliver a better audio experience, improved battery efficiency, and potentially new features, signaling Apple’s continued push to innovate and maintain its leadership in the wireless audio market.
Apple is reportedly working on an upgraded AirPods Pro 3, which could include infrared (IR) sensors for enhanced functionality.
The AirPods Pro 3, launched just last month, currently features Apple’s H2 chip, unveiled in 2022. However, sources indicate that the company is already developing a new chip for upcoming AirPods models. Next year, Apple is expected to introduce an updated AirPods Pro 3 with built-in IR cameras, potentially accompanied by the next-generation H3 chip, aimed at improving processing power and new features.
Alongside this, Apple is reportedly designing the next iteration of its standard AirPods, likely to be branded as AirPods 5, targeting its entry-level wireless earphone lineup. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman noted in his Power On newsletter that the next-generation AirPods Pro is already in the works. This TWS headset is anticipated to include the H3 chip, which should boost wireless performance, sound quality, and reduce latency, though a launch date has yet to be confirmed.
The upcoming AirPods Pro model with integrated IR cameras may be the first to feature the H3 chip, enabling IR-based functionalities. However, it is still uncertain whether this version will retain the “AirPods Pro 3” name or launch as AirPods Pro 4. Apple is also developing AirPods 5 to succeed the AirPods 4 series. While it may not include a heart rate sensor, the new model could incorporate other health features, such as a temperature sensor, along with expanded AI capabilities.
The AirPods 4 and AirPods 4 with ANC were released last year, and the next-generation AirPods could arrive in the coming months. Given Apple’s secretive launch strategy, detailed information may only surface closer to release.
