Roku has launched Howdy, a new budget-friendly streaming platform priced at just $2.99 per month, offering viewers an ad-free entertainment experience. Designed to cater to audiences seeking affordable yet uninterrupted streaming, Howdy aims to stand out in a crowded market dominated by ad-supported services. With its low price point and promise of seamless viewing, Roku is positioning Howdy as an attractive option for cost-conscious consumers who value quality content without the distractions of advertisements.
Roku has introduced a subscription-based streaming platform named Howdy, offering an ad-free viewing experience. Priced at $2.99 a month, it provides nearly 10,000 hours of entertainment sourced from partners like Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery, and FilmRise, along with select Roku Originals.
Subscribers can enjoy titles such as Mad Max: Fury Road, The Blind Side, Weeds, and Kids in the Hall, as well as a variety of romantic comedies, medical dramas, and classic ’90s sitcoms. According to Roku founder and CEO Anthony Wood, the service is designed to enhance rather than rival existing premium streaming options.
The launch follows Roku’s $185 million acquisition of Frndly TV, a platform known for live television, on-demand programming, and cloud DVR capabilities. Howdy complements The Roku Channel, Roku’s free, ad-supported streaming service, which has been named the leading FAST platform ahead of Tubi and Pluto TV. Roku reports that over 125 million people use its services daily.
The company expects Howdy’s expansion to be fueled by its extensive reach, having surpassed 90 million streaming households earlier this year. Recently, Roku posted its second-quarter earnings, reporting a 15% revenue increase and 35.4 billion streaming hours, which is 5.2 billion more than the same quarter last year.
